Elbert Malcom Key

Funeral services for Elbert Malcom Key, who passed away at his home nine miles east of Rogers at 12:10 Tuesday night was held at 2:30 at the home Friday, conducted by Rev. Conner Moorhead of the M.E. Church, South, of Rogers. Mr. Key at the time of his death was 75 years, seven months and nine days old.

“Uncle Ebbie,” as he was called by all who knew him, had been ill for two years, and for the past 10 months his condition had been serious.

He had lived all his life with the exception of six years since the close of the civil war on the homestead settled by his great-grandfather, William Hardwick, in 1838. In 1933 the family celebrated the 100th anniversary, with relatives coming from several state.

In early boyhood he united with the Methodist Church. He also was a member of War Eagle Chapter of the Masonic Lodge since the age of 21, and at the time of his death was the oldest member with one exception, that being his life-long friends, Rev. Clark Bland. He also was a member of he Albert Pike Chapter, No. 96, R.A.M. of Rogers.

He was a kind husband and father, a good neighbor and friend to all who knew him best.

He was preceded in death by one son, Carl H. Key, a World War veteran, who passed away in 1919.

He leaves to mourn his passing his widow, Mrs. Addie Key, and five children; Ottis Key of Rogesr, Mrs. Winnie Gurhley of Anadarko, Okla.; Mrs. Manie Wallace of Garden City, Kansas, Chas. L. Key and Mrs. Eulalia Correll of the home, and eleven grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Chas. Edwards of Elm Springs, Ark., and Mrs. Minnie Trotter of Rogers, Ark. , besides a host of relatives and friends.
