Sophronia Payne, 97, died at her residence her in Mt. Home, Monday. She was born Feb 14, 1883, in Waynesboro, TN. Mrs. Payne was the daughter of the late Jim and Rosa Penson Young. She was a housewife and member of the Church of God. She and her husband, Annias J. Payne were married in 1903 in Tennessee. Her husband preceded her in death.
Survivors include one son, J.E. (Etherage) Payne of Mt. Home; one daughter, Katherine Johnson of Mt. Home; three grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, one great-great grandchild and several nieces and nephews.
Services were Wednesday at Roller Chapel with Rev. John Best officiating. Interment was held at Fairview Cemetery, Buford area. Pallbearers were Kenneth Johnson, Ronnie Haskell, Joe Stancil, George Johnson, Chuck Sears and Gene Payne. Arrangements were made by Roller Funeral Home.
