William Dodd Briggs was born in Union County, South Carolina to James E and Rebecca George Briggs. He founded the town of Briggsville, Yell County, Arkansas. On September 24, 1857 in Yell County, Arkansas he married Felicia Ann Coleman, daughter of Patrick and Elizabeth Ann Boles Coleman. William and Felicia had children James Patrick, Anna Elizabeth, Charles M, William Franklin, Sophronia Louisa, Edna M, Levi L and Wallace D Briggs.
