Levi L. was born in Yell County, Arkansas to William Dodd and Felicia Ann Coleman Briggs. He married Mary Belle Compton April 7, 1902 in Yell County, Arkansas. They had children Helena, Irene, Robert D, William Buford, Levi Compton, Buel, Phil and Harry Lee.
Levi's siblings were James Patrick, Anna Elizabeth, Charles M, William Franklin, Sophronia Louisa, Edna M, and Wallace D Briggs.
