Emily J. Connett, 76 of Decatur, died Thursday afternoon at the Gravette Medical Center Hospital following a short illness. She was born April 30, 1898, in New Jersey.

She was a retired piano teacher and served as pianist for the First Baptist Church of Decatur. She was a concert pianist at Carnegie Hall and served as pianist for several churches in Staten Island, N.Y., and Northwestern Arkansas. A graduate of the Julliard School of Music in New York City, N.Y., she was a lifetime member of the Rebecca Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star in Staten Island. She was also a member of the 0.E.S. Nebo Chapter in Gravette.

She is survived by three sons, Calvin G. Connett, Cinnamonn, N.J., Herbert F. Connett, Staten Island, N.Y., and Clifford E. Connett, Ansonia, Conn.; two daughters, Emily J. Montgomery, Decatur, and Marion E. Bonnett, Yorktown, Va.; two sisters, Dorothy Cannon, Staten Island, N.Y., and Marion Ward, Toms River, NJ.; 25 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

A memorial fund for the advancement of music has been established at the Bank of Decatur. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. today at the First Baptist Church of Decatur with the Rev. Ernest Whitten officiating. Burial will be in the Decatur Cemetery under the direction of Callison-McKinney Funeral Home of Gravette.
