She was born "in Boone County, Arkansas, the daughter of Bert and Lydia (Stewart) Holmes. Her parents; her husband, Garvin Staggs; her son, Lonnie Ray Staggs; her brothers, Lee Roy Holmes and Harold Holmes; and her sisters, Viva Reeves, Ruth Fisk, and Ruby Bailey, preceded her in death.
