HOLMES, Alexander A. - Alexander A. Holmes was born in Illinois June 24, 1838 and was married to Andrea M. Hummel on July 23, 1868. They came to Benton county, Arkansas and settled at old Colville 49 years ago on the same farm on which he died December 1st, 1920. He was post¬master at Colville for years. Bro. Holmes professed religion and united with the M.E. church, South about 35 years ago in which he lived a consistent Christian life until he was called to the great church above. He was a good quiet man and all who knew him said so. He leaves to mourn his going his aged, afflicted companion; one son, James Holmes at Springtown; four daughters, Mrs. J.M. Hicks, Springfield; Mrs. L.M. McGaugh, Bentonville; Mrs. R.L. McGaugh, Lowell; Mrs. W.A. McGaugh, Fort Smith; and he doubtless is already enjoying the reunion of his three babies in the Glory land. His funeral services were conducted by the writer and he now sleeps in Mt. Hebron cemetery. Blessings on the bereft. Y.A. Gilmore.

HOLMES, Mrs. Alex - Mrs. Alex Holmes was buried at Hebron the 29th day of June, having spent 83 years of life on earth and we can say she was a dear woman. She had lived by the Hebron church for 35 years and was a a member of the Methodist church. We have often heard her tell of her youth, being born in Sweden and crossing the ocean in an old-time sail boat as a teen—ager. Several weeks were required to make the voyage. She has a sister living in Sweden and as Mrs. Holmes children are all American born none of them could read the letters received from her. Mrs. Holmes had been a sufferer for 30 years with an affliction on her limb and no one could express how much agony she always endured. But never was she heard to complain of her lot in life. Not one of her friends ever heard her speak an unkind word of anyone. The children are: Mrs. Bob Rhodes, Will McGaugh and Jim Holmes. All were present at the funeral which was conducted by Rev. Downs of Rogers. The body was interred by her husband.
