Herbert Antoine Gambill was born in Benton county, Ark. January 12, 1881 and departed this life February 6, 1929 at the age of 48 years. He was united in marriage January 8, 1905 to Etta Sammons and to this union were born two daughters, Leta and Lois, who with their mother survive him. He is also survived by two brothers, Pearce and Roy Gambill who reside in Montana and a sister, Mrs. Perry Alden of Osage Mills. The funeral was conducted from the home February 8 at 2:00 p.m. by the Rev. J.A. Womack of the M.E. Church, South of Rogers, Ark. Interment was made in the Barron cemetery at Vaughn. Mr. Gambill was well known in this section of the country, having been a merchant at Osage for about eighteen years. A few years ago he sold his merchandise at this place and went into business at Fayetteville but on account of fast failing health he returned to his old home at Osage where he lived until his death. No comment is necessary by this paper on the life and character of Herbert Gambill, they are an open book. He was an honest, honorable man and a kind friend to everyone. We never heard him speak evil of anyone or say anything that would wound the feelings of a friend or neighbor. He always delighted in going to religious services and ever took part in any assembly for the uplift of the community. In his home he was a faithful husband and a loving father and his daughters, the elder a teacher in the schools of Fort Smith, Ark. and the younger, a senior in Bentonville High School, are well respected and trusted where ever they are known. For the past nine years this fatal disease has preyed upon his body but he was always cheerful and never complained and fought bravely for life. Faithful to the last were his wife and children and loving neighbors. When loving hands ministered so tenderly in our great sorrow it turns our thoughts from sorrow to the many great blessings we have yet left to us. A Friend.
