Joseph Dickerson Gray, 95, of Route 2, Mt. Home, died Monday at his home on the Burford Road, south of here. A resident of Baxter County for most of his life, he was a retired oil field worker and farmer.
Services for Mr. Gray are scheduled for 2PM today (Thursday) at the Old Galatia Church on State Highway 5, near Norfork. Pastor Jimmy D. Whitfield of Mt. Home will officiate.
Interment will be in the Galatia Cemetery, with Kirby-Blevins-LaFevers Funeral Directors in charge of arrangements.
Bobby Layton, Tommy Layton, Homer Hamilton, Jerry Gray, William Gray and Ronnie Dockins will serve as pallbearers.
The son of the late Leroy and Mary Spears Gray, Mr. Gray was born Feb 20, 1884 at Bellefonte, in Boone County and came to Baxter County 91 years ago. He and the former Bertha Loosey were married Sep 16, 1926, at Hopewell. Mr. Gray's first wife Mary Mettie Wright Gray died in 1920.
Survivors include his wife of Route 2, Mt. Home; three sons, J.D. Gray and Robert Gray, both of Mt. Home and Gene Gray of DeSoto, KS; six daughters, Evelyn Rotel, and Maxine Woods both of Mt. Home, Loraine Griggs of Norfork, Dellar Sanders of Pineville, Eva Brown of Fort Smith and Elwanda Loosery of Calico Rock; 58 grandchildren and 62 great grandchildren.
