Henry Vestern "Dutch" son of John William Whitmire and Daisy Isabella (Wilson) Whitmire. Velma the daughter of Adrian Columbus Long and Mary Lea (Roofener) Long.
STRAWBERRY - Henry Vestern “Dutch” Whitmire, 86, of Strawberry died Saturday, Nov. 8, 2008, in a Cave City nursing home.
Born July 16, 1922, in Strawberry, he was the son of John and Daisy Wilson Whitmire. He was a farmer and a cattle rancher. He was a member of Strawberry Church of Christ.
Survivors include two sons, Ronald Whitmire and Mike Whitmire, both of Strawberry; two daughters, Beverly Mason of Jacksonville and Patsy Grissom of Lynn; a brother, Chester Whitmire of Indiana; seven grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and several nephews and nieces.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Velma Long Whitmire; a daughter, Mary Jean Bennett; two grandsons, Timothy Wayne Mason and Roger Bennett; a brother, Jack Whitmire; and four sisters, Syble Stephens, Virgie Moss, Maxie Lackey and Ivy Burson.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Strawberry Church of Christ with Tommy Boles and Greg Cooper officiating. Burial will be in Ward Cemetery in Strawberry under the direction of Qualls Funeral Home of Cave City.
Pallbearers will be Scott Whitmire, Craig Whitmire, Shane Holder, Ronald Saffell, David Mason and Richard Johnston.
Honorary pallbearers are Jordan Bennett, Todd Johnston, Maynard Ritchie, Tom Penn, Billy Mount and Kenny Turner.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 tonight.
