Val the son of Ewing and Alice (Owens) Kirby. Annie the daughter of Adam and Sarah (Babcock) Gieb.


Mrs. Annie Geib Kirby, 92, of Strawberry, died Thursday in Strawberry. Born in Doniphan, Mo., she was a homemaker and a member of the Church of Christ in Strawberry.

Survivors include her husband, Val W. Kirby of the home; two sons, Marvin Kirby of Strawberry and Wayne Kirby of Grafton, Ill.; three daughters, Louise Gay and Maxine Gray, both of Strawberry, and Sue McGee of Cave City; one brother, George Geib of Mammoth Spring; 15 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by three brothers, five sisters and two great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 2 Sunday afternoon at the Strawberry Church of Christ, with Tommy Boles officiating. Burial will follow in the Ward Cemetery at Strawberry, under the direction of Qualls Funeral Home of Cave City.

Pallbearers will be Jimmy Gray, Terry Kirby, Gary Kirby, Bill Gray, Travis Gray, Roger Kirby, Rick Gay and Tim West.

Visitation will be from 5 this afternoon to 8 this evening at the funeral home.

Val W. Kirby, 100, of Strawberry, died July 1, 2008, at White River Medical Center in Batesville.

Born Sept. 5, 1907, at Mammoth Spring, he was the son of Ewing and Alice Owens Kirby. He was a farmer and carpenter and was a member of the Strawberry Church of Christ.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Annie Geib Kirby; a son, Val Wayne Kirby; five brothers, Oll Kirby, Roy Kirby, John Kirby, Odell Kirby and Carl Kirby; four sisters, Mona Spillers, Charlotte Ernest, Ruby Kirby and Lois Kirby; and two great-grandsons, Jamie Gray and Abram Kirby.

Survivors include a son, Marvin Kirby, Strawberry; three daughters, Louise Gray and Maxine Gray, both of Strawberry, and Wilma McGee, Cave City; a sister, Dorothy Warren, Hermitage, Mo.; 12 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and 13 great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral was Saturday at 10 a.m. at the Strawberry Church of Christ. Burial was in Ward Cemetery at Strawberry under the direction of Qualls Funeral Home of Cave City.

Grandsons served as pallbearers.
