BUTTRAM, Edna BANKS - Edna Banks Buttram was born near Hiwasse April 25, 1896, departed this life Friday, May 7, 1915, aged 19 years and 12 days. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Houstan Banks, youngest of eight children, the pride of them all, the sun shine of the home. From childhood she was religious, a regular Bible reader, united with the Christian church at age of 13 and was ever since a faithful helper. Socially she was a favorite, her cheerful, sweet disposition won her many friends loved by all who knew her; like a sunbeam she brightened the lives of those around her. She was accomplished, naturally artistic and was developing her talent for music. At the age of 18, the picture of health and beauty, she was married to R.L. Buttram, popular and well-known ranchman who lived in Missouri a few miles from Hiwasse, at Pineville, Mo., Oct. 19, 1914. They resided on the ranch several months when her health was fast failing, and as she desired she was taken to her mother's home, to gratify her wish. She was unable to be up much and for some weeks before the end her suffering was intense but she bore up bravely. Her husband was compelled to be at the ranch part of the time but spent much time at her bedside ministering to her and to see that everything possible was done for her. All the family was present except Mrs. M.E. Johnson who was on her way and arrived a few hours later. Besides the husband and her mother she leaves two brothers, W.J. and S.G., and five sisters, Mesdames J.B. Edwards and R.W. Adcock, Hiwasse; Sam Beasley, Bentonville; J.W. Howerton, Prairie Grove; M.E. Johnson, Muskogee, Okla., also a host of relatives and friends to mourn the loss. Edna was a dutiful daughter, a dear, sweet sister, a true wife. The husband has lost a priceless jewel, his young bride whom he adored. W.W. Ocher, funeral director of Bentonville, had charge of the funeral which was conducted at Mt. Pleasant Saturday, May 28. The Rev. John S. Zeran of Bentonville Christian church delivered a consoling sermon. She was laid to rest beside her father in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery as she requested. Contributed.
