Mary Ann Powers was born in Ireland Feb. 2, 1837. She came to America in the fall of 18??, coming on a sailing vessel and being on the water six weeks. Was joined in marriage to Michael Nugent April 15, 1853 by Rev. John Boyle at Elmyra, N.Y. To this union were born 8 children: Ellen, Charles, Alice, Margaret, Eliabeth, Clara, Thomas and James. Only two of these survive, James of Gravette and Charles of Cleveland, Okla. Her husband died Nov. 19, 1887 and she since made her home with her sons. She died July 25, 1917, aged 80 years, 5 months and 23 days. She also leaves two brothers, Michael Powers of Cleveland, Okla and John Powers of New Jersey, besides a host of friends. She was loved by all who knew her, being a faithful, earnest Christian. Eld. J.E. Teaney conducted the funeral at Mt. Pleasant Thursday July 26 where interment was made.
