He was the son of Luther Andrew and Almeda Clementine Lucus Mitchell.
He was the husband of Eugene 'Jeanie' Birdie
Webber

He served in the Pacific assigned to basic field artillery and later was marksman and gunner. He was wounded while searching tunnels for the enemy. He suffered from recurring bouts of malaria and jungle fever months after the war.
