Bentonville - James Newton (Newt) Soupes, 86, a retired farmer, died Tuesday in Bates Memorial Hospital. He was born in Bedford County, Tenn., and came to Benton County as a child. He lived in the Mt. Hebron community for 46 years, moving to Bentonville 20 years ago: Surviving are a son Sears Soapes of Springfield, Mo.; a daughter, Mrs. Veta Schell of Bentonville; two brothers, Fred Soapes of Harrisonville, Mo., and Jesse Soapes of Rogers; a sister, Mrs. Stella Young of Muskogee Okla. and three grandchildren.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. at the Bentonville Church of Christ. Burial will be in Hart Cemetery under direction of Burns Funeral Home.
