July 21, 1925 - March 7, 2008
Jean V. Guthrie, 82, of Horseshoe Bend, died Friday, March 7, at White River Medical Center. She was born July 21, 1925 in St. Joseph, Missouri and was the daughter of Frank and Sylvia (Turner) Smith.
Jean was a homemaker, a member of the First Baptist Church at Horseshoe Bend, a member of the Christian Women’s Club and a past member of the Historical Board of Imboden in Lawrence County. She was a very religious person, respectful, open-minded, philosophical, and very strong-willed. She was a true lady. Jean had a phone number for everything. If there was a problem or something needed to be done, all anyone had to do was ask Jean and she would have the number to call to get it fixed. She loved spending time with her family and for years there was a tradition of a “Christmas Goodie Party”. Jean loved to read and her favorite book was the Bible.
Survivors include a son, Randy Guthrie and his wife, Linda of Paragould; two daughters: Debi Gaskins and Chuck McNeight of Horseshoe Bend and Glenda Bowers and her husband, Marcus Bowers of Batesville. She was the loving grandmother of nine grandchildren: Stephanie Watkins, Stacie Clyburn, Marc Bowers, Blake Henthorne, Ryan Guthrie, Chad Guthrie, Jeremie Guthrie, Jean Ann Jackson and Laura Gaskins; and fifteen great-grandchildren: Mackenzie, Madison, Riley, Connor, Sara, Ashton, Ashleigh, McKenzie, River, Zane, Carson, Emma, Gracie, Chance and Spencer. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews and many friends.
Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Glenn Guthrie.
Funeral services are at 2:00 p.m. Monday at the Imboden Baptist Church with Reverend Jim Black officiating.
Burial will follow the services at the Hope Cemetery in Imboden under the direction of Roller-Crouch Funeral Home of Batesville.
Pallbearers are Doyle Cockrill, Brian Gaskins, Ray Henthorne, Steve Huddleston, Dan Matthews, Gavin Murphy and David Watkins.
Honorary pallbearers are Dr. Robert Walton, Dr. John Lambert, Dr. Tom Cummins and her grandsons.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
