Newton Jackson Fortenberry the son of Sevier "Severe" Lavern Fortenberry and Nancy Walker (Barnett) Fortenberry. Mabel the daughter of Joseph Edward Moore and Sarah Josephine (Childress) Moore.

"Fortenberry" p. 8 Organized company with Herman Kaiser (sister Mae's husband) and Dot Fortenberry in 1924 in Imboden. In 1928 they had the cobblestone Modern Garage built on 3rd St., then intersection of hiways 62 & 63. Kaiser managed this company from 1926 to 1938 McLeod calls it a large filling station and auto repair shop owned by Herman Kaiser.
Lived on and operated the Kaiser farm 3 mi south of Smithville. (McLeod wrote this in present tense in 1936)
Moved to Smithville when 5 yrs and attend public school there. Attended Presby College, Ark. Cumberland College, in Clarksville, Ark in 1903 and 1904.
Helped his father, Sevier, in Fortenberry Mercantile Store in Smithville. Hauled freight for store from Imboden with a team and wagon. Store was destroyed by fire in Jan. 1908. Newt then lived with his sister, Ida Mae and brother-in-law, H. Kaiser on their farm for many years helping with the farm work.
Married Mabel Leona Moore of Smithville Mar. 5, 1913 in home of her parents by Rev. Marris, Presby minister. They lived with Kaisers until summer of 1914. Then moved to house built on adjoining land (known as the Brady farm.) In 1916 they moved back to operate the farm because Ida Mae, Newt's sister, and children had moved to Imboden for children to go to school.
Newt stayed in Lawrence County until 1938 when he bought a farm east of Lepanto. Lived and operated this farm until 1948 when they sold the land, retaining a dwelling for their home. Still there in 1953 when "Fortenberry" written. On a rural route out of Osceola.
Democrats in politics and Cumberland Presbyterians.
Died at 86 years of age. Buried in Hope Cemetery, Imboden, Ark.
His wife: Mabel Moore Fortenberry, aged 91, died Oct 18, 1981 in Elgin, Illinois Graveside services in Hope Cemetery, Imboden, Arkansas.
