Jewel "J.C." Baker the son of Asa A Baker and Mary Ann (Morton) Baker. Marie the daughter of Alexander Gordon Massey and Ethel Victoria (Hugg) Massey.

Jewel "J.C." Baker, of Sherwood, formerly of Imboden and Walnut Ridge, departed this life on Thursday, August 14, 2003 at St. Vincent's North Hospital in Sherwood, at the age of 89 years, 8 months and 25 days. He was born November 19, 1913, the son of Asa and Mary Ann (Morton) Baker.
He was united in marriage to Marie Massey on August 17, 1956 in Walnut Ridge.
Mr. Baker was a veteran of the United States Navy, having served in World War II, a member of The Arkansas Cattleman Association, a charter member of the Lions Club of Imboden, a past member of the Town Council of Imboden, a member of the Sylvan Hills Church of Christ in Sherwood and an Elder at the Imboden Church of Christ.
Mr. Baker is survived by his wife, Marie, one daughter and son-in-law, Alexa and Rickey Grissom, one grandson, Baker Grissom and one granddaughter, Marisa Grissom, all of Sherwood.
Many other relatives and friends mourn his passing.
Mr. Baker was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Snoda Crabtree and Donna Barlar and three brothers, Virgil, Cleo and Marvin Baker.

SHERWOOD -- Jewel "J.C." Baker, 89, of Sherwood, formerly of Imboden and Walnut Ridge, died Thursday, Aug. 14, at St. Vincent's North Hospital in Sherwood.
He was a Navy veteran of World War II. He was a member of the Sylvan Hills Church of Christ, a member of The Arkansas Cattlemen's Association, a charter member of the Lions Club of Imboden and a past member of the Town Council of Imboden.
Survivors include his wife, Marie Baker of Sherwood; one daughter, Alexa Grissom of Sherwood; and two grandchildren, Baker Grissom and Marisa Grissom, both of Sherwood.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Asa and Mary Ann Morton Baker; two sisters; and three brothers.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Imboden Church of Christ, with Harvey Arnold officiating.
Burial will be in Hope Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. today at Higginbotham Funeral Home chapel in Walnut Ridge.

Alice Marie Baker
SHERWOOD — Alice Marie Baker, age 86, of Sherwood, formerly of Imboden, passed away on Saturday, June 27, 2009, at Little Rock.
Mrs. Baker was born on Nov. 27, 1922, at Strawberry, the daughter of Alexander Gordon and Ethel Hugg Massey. She was united in marriage to J.C. Baker on Aug. 17, 1956, at Walnut Ridge.
Mrs. Baker taught high school English for many years at Portia, Strawberry and Sloan-Hendrix, where she was also a librarian. She was a longtime member of the Church of Christ and served faithfully in the role of hospitality. Her home hosted many preachers and their families for overnight visits and many Sunday meals.
She was a member of Sylvan Hills Church of Christ, Delta Kappa Gamma and a graduate of Harding College. She loved her role of grandmother and cherished the time she had with her grandchildren.
Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Alexa and Rickey Grissom; one grandson, Baker Grissom; one granddaughter, Marisa Grissom, all of Sherwood; and many nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Baker was preceded in death by her husband, J.C. Baker, in 2003.
Services will be at 11 a.m. today in the Imboden Church of Christ with Robert Wingfield officiating.
Interment will be in Hope Cemetery at Imboden.
Arrangements are under the direction of Higginbotham Funeral Home of Walnut Ridge.
