Note:
Sam was the son of Joseph Edwin Duran Sr. and Catherine Cole Carmichael Duran. He married Mary Melissa Walls. He served in Co. H, 4th Alabama Cavalry, CSA, during the Civil War. He died while visiting his brother Albert G. Duran in Holland, Arkansas, and was buried with Albert's family in Oakland Cemetery. The location of his grave was recorded by Duran family members and a veteran's headstone was placed there in 2007.
