Jean "J.C." Cassell Smith, 88, of Highland, formerly of Ozark Acres, died Sept. 13, 2005. He was born in Sharp County, the son of Joseph L. and Frances A. Smith. He was a retired Baptist minister. He was formerly pastor of Immanuel Baptist Church at Newport, Baptist Church in Imboden, First Baptist in Dell, Friendship Baptist in Kennett and Spring Lake Baptist in Ozark Acres.
Survivors include three sons, Judge Philip Smith of Pocahontas, Mark Smith of Jonesboro and Herschel Smith of Gwinn, Mich.; two daughters, Rebecca Parrish of San Antonio, Texas, and Vicki Smith of Louisville, Ky.; his wife, Berneda Smith of Pocahontas; three sisters, Orpha Frey of Williford, Paulin Howard of Little Rock and Ruth Withkowski of Manassas, Va.; and two brothers, Orman Smith of Little Rock and Joe Smith of Conway.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Frances Smith; and a sister, Eva Willmuth.
The funeral service was Sept. 15 at First Baptist Church in Hardy with Bro. Farrell Duffell, Bro. Ron Berry and Bro. Marvin Russell officiating. Burial was in Baker Cemetery with arrangements under the direction of Heath Funeral Home of Hardy.
