Mrs. Beverly Jane Gay Stephenson, 61, of Portland, passed away at her home in Portland on Wednesday, April 17, 2013. She was born August 23, 1951 in Lake Village and she was a life long resident of the Portland area. She graduated from Portland High School in 1969. She was a Bookkeeper, Accountant and the Vice-President of Gay Farm, Inc. Mrs. Stephenson was a member of the Portland United Methodist Church and served on the Memorial Committee. She loved the farm and her family. Known as "Bevo" by her friends and family, she had a joyful spirit and loved to make people laugh. Her heart was with her family, especially her grandsons. She loved animals and her pet, Brown Dog, is well known by the neighbors.
She is preceded in death by her father, James Gay; two brothers, Jake Gay and James Gay Jr.; her grandparents, Louise & Gerald Gay and Emma & Forte Mazanti.
She is survived by a son, Jim Cokley; a daughter, Jennifer Hill and her husband, Dea; her mother, Betty Gay Shuler of Portland; two grandsons, Max and James Hill all of Portland; a special cousin, Gay Tipps; a special nephew, Cody Gay and wife, Amanda; a special great-nephew, Ethan Gay all of New Mexico and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be 10 a.m., Saturday, April 20, 2013 at the Portland United Methodist Church with Dr. Phil Worley and Rev. Carl Mason officiating. A private family burial will be held in the Portland Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers are Greg Moyers, Trey Moyers, Mike Brooks, Steve Brooks, Josh Brooks, Mark Pennington and Taylor Young. The family will be receiving friends at the home of Mrs. Betty Gay Shuler, 612 North Main Street, Portland, after 5 p.m., Friday. Memorials may be made to the Portland United Methodist Church, PO Box 400, Portland, AR 71663 or to your favorite charity.
