Marcia Ann Snyder (Edger), 64, of Benton, died Monday, March 1, 2021. She was born August 18, 1956, in Jackson, Michigan, to Richard Woodworth Edger and the late Margaret Louise Edger (Dalton). She was predeceased by her husband of 44 years, Jonathan D. Snyder, and a son, Jonathan Snyder Jr.

Marcia was a devoted member of the First Presbyterian Church of Benton for 36 years, where she served as a past Moderator of the Deacons, as an Elder, and as the Clerk of Session. She had a strong dedication to the youth of the church, acting at times as Director of the Presbyterian Youth Fellowship and supporting youth mission and service projects through fundraising events and luncheons even after her own children aged out. Marcia expressed her spirituality through compassionate action and service to the community. She volunteered on a regular basis at the Churches Joint Council on Human Needs (CJCOHN) where she also served on the Board of Directors. Additionally, Marcia served on the Board of Directors for Saline County Safe Haven beginning in 2006 and has acted as the Board’s President since 2009. She not only supported the women and children utilizing these services but also the staff, caring for the caregivers. In her volunteer and leadership roles, she sought to lessen the suffering and burden of others through tangible and practical support. Her legacy to her church and community will live on in the lives of those she touched.

Marcia was a devoted friend, wife, and mother. She was committed to helping many of her friends around town keep their homes and spirits up. She instilled a love of healthy homemade food, good conversation, considerate gift giving, and a sense of humor and hard work in her girls, who carry on her spirit of service in their own lives as adults. Her assertive presence and communication helped them to become strong, capable, compassionate, and confident women. Marcia also loved her pets, especially her dog Roman and her cat, Kitty, who provided much comfort as she grieved her husband’s recent death.

Marcia leaves behind her four daughters, Melia Snyder (Gregory Todd Walton), of Cortez, Colorado; Alyssa Snyder (Margaret Thomas), of Fayetteville, Arkansas; Kristen Snyder, of Miami, Florida; and Elizabeth Snyder of Fife, Washington. She also leaves behind her father Richard Edger, 85 of Knoxville, TN; three sisters, Denise Edger of San Francisco, California; Sheila Campbell (Bob) of St. Cloud, Minnesota, and Melia Keep of Ocala, Florida; two brothers, Mike Edger (Cara) and Patrick Edger of Jackson, Michigan; and a host of nieces, nephews, family members and friends who loved Marcia and will miss her always.

In lieu of food and flowers, her daughters ask that she be remembered by making a donation to support her legacy of compassionate action. A memorial fund has been established in her name at the Churches Joint Council on Human Needs (CJCOHN) and Safe Haven of Saline County. Gifts may be made directly or through First Presbyterian Church of Benton.
