Willene Sawyers Austin, 93 of Imboden, passed away September 14, 2024, at her residence.
Born November 30, 1930, in the Whittaker Community near Walnut Ridge, daughter of Willie S. Sawyers and Myrl Goodwin Sawyers. She was united in marriage to Shelby Austin on November 24, 1950. Willene was a Registered Nurse, working for Randolph Hospital, Imboden Medical Clinic, BRAD HeadStart, Arkansas State schools as a Migrant Nurse, Sloan Hendrix and Williford School Nurse, and the Director of Nurses at Lawrence Hall. She also was very active in the Arkansas Extension Council Club, as a Five Rivers Master Gardener, a founding member of the Imboden Friends of the Library, and she served on the BRAD Board of Directors. She loved to garden, read, travel and go camping. She was a faithful member of the Imboden First Baptist Church.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Shelby in 1992; and a brother, Conway Sawyers.
Survivors include her son, Paul (Jan Linda) Austin of Fayetteville; two daughters, Cherie (Roger) Eveland of Imboden, and Sarah Kiker of Imboden; three grandchildren, Josh (Candace) Austin of Fayetteville, Kellie Kamp of Imboden, and Austin Kiker (Bradley) of Memphis; four great grandchildren, Corbin Davenport, Maddix Kemp, Wyatt and Cameron Austin; one sister, Vera Jo Breeding of Lexington, KY; and many other relatives and friends.
Funeral Services will be Wednesday, September 18, 2024, at 11 A.M. in the Imboden First Baptist Church with Bro. Joe Loghry and Bro. Frank Casillas officiating.
Interment will follow in the Hope Cemetery.
Visitation will be Tuesday evening from 5 P.M. till 7 P.M. at the Imboden First Baptist Church.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Imboden Friends of the Library, at the Bobbie Jean Memorial Library.
