Ola Faye (Cottingham) Lavender, 77, of Little Rock, Arkansas went home to be with the Lord on July 25, 2014. She was born January 26, 1937 in Prescott, Arkansas. Ola Faye was a devoted wife and mother. She loved life and enjoyed pulling pranks on her children and grandchildren. She is loved and will be missed by us all. She provided childcare in her home for years and touched the lives of many children. She showed them love and held a special spot in her heart for each of them. Our home was always filled with love. She was a member of Bingham Road Baptist Church and before that Archview Baptist Church. She was loved by all who knew her.
She is survived by her loving husband of almost 60 years, John Douglas Lavender of Little Rock, Arkansas; two sons, James Douglas Lavender (Gayle) of Little Rock, Arkansas and John Paul Lavender (Lori) of Scott, Arkansas; two daughters, Barbara Gail Lavender Moore (Ferrell) and Betty Jo Lavender Matthews (Jeff) both of Little Rock, Arkansas; four granddaughters, Jamie Lavender; Lindsey Lavender, Emily Bemis (Jeremy) and Leah Lavender; three grandsons, Nicholas Lavender (Ashley), Drew Lavender (Lauren) and Hunter Matthews and one great grandson, Kaden Sweat; five sisters, Virginia Jerry, Helen Jo Huskey and Marilyn Evans of El Dorado, Arkansas; Floy Richardson of Little Rock, Arkansas and Sandra Still of North Little Rock, Arkansas and countless numbers of nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Floyd and Gracie Odell (Cromwell) Cottingham of Prescott, Arkansas; brothers, Jackie Gene Cottingham and Billy Ray Cottingham of Prescott, Arkansas and Benny Floyd Cottingham of Texarkana, Arkansas; sister, Emma Sue Cottingham of Prescott, Arkansas and several uncles, aunts, cousins, nephews and nieces.
Services will be held 10:00 a.m., Monday, July 28, 2014 at Roller-Drummond Funeral Home Chapel, 10900 Interstate 30, Little Rock, Arkansas 72209 (501) 455-5800 with Bro. Ben Jones, Central Baptist Church, Mineral Springs, Arkansas and Bro. Roger Brown, Bingham Road Baptist Church, Little Rock, Arkansas officiating. Interment to follow at Pinecrest Memorial Park.
Family will receive friends 2:00-4:00 p.m., Sunday, July 27, 2014 at the funeral home.
*When John Douglas Lavendar was born on May 22, 1931, in Arkansas, his father, Harold, was 22 and his mother, Thelma, was 18. He married Ola Faye Cottingham on November 19, 1954, in Nevada, Arkansas. They had three children during their marriage. He died on November 12, 2014, in Little Rock, Arkansas, at the age of 83, and was buried in Alexander, Arkansas.
