Wilbur "Dub" Bentley, age 80, of Little Rock died Friday, December 21, 2007 at home. Dub was born on March 2, 1927 in Texarkana, Texas, to the late William and Lula Marie (Cooley) Bentley. The Bentley Family moved to Little Rock when Dub was a very young boy. He grew up there and graduated from Little Rock High School in 1944. He married his childhood sweetheart, Berta, when they were both 17 years old.

Dub joined the Navy at age 17 and served as an enlisted man in the Pacific Theater until the end of World War II. He and Berta started their family in 1947 and had four children the last being born in 1959.

Dub was a devoted husband and father; earned his law degree from UALR Law School in 1952 and commissioned as a 1st Lt in the USAF in the Judge Advocate Corps in 1953. He retired from the Air Force in 1970 as a Lt Colonel having served a combat tour in Vietnam (Pleiku) with the Judge Advocate Corps. In addition to receiving campaign ribbons with the Navy, he received the Distinguished Service Medal DSM and the Bronze Star while in the Air Force.

Dub retired from the Air Force and returned with his family to Little Rock where he established himself within the law community. He served as a Deputy Prosecuting Attorney for several years and was elected as the Prosecuting Attorney for Pulaski and Perry Counties in 1980 and served honorably until 1992. He will always be remembered as the Prosecutor for the Orsini Murder Trial which received national attention.

Dub was predeceased by his beloved wife of 59 years, Berta ; their son, William Bentley and his wife Mary Ann, sisters, Pat Pearrow, Billie Larch, Minnie Dee Creekmore; and his great-grandson Case Lee Whitten. Dub is survived by his daughters, Kathy Simpson her husband Mike, Janis Bentley and Beth Whitten; grandchildren, Julie Morrow and husband Lawrence, Laurie Van Noy and husband Van, Chris Bentley and wife Rachel, Cody Whitten and wife Amy, Melissa Bentley, Brooke DeHaven and husband Rob, Alexandra Whitten and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m., Friday, December 28, 2007 at Roller Chenal
Funeral Home. Burial with military honors will be in Pinecrest Memorial Park immediately following the service.
