Lawrence T. Smith, of Bryant, Arkansas went home to his Lord on Thursday, September 22, 2011, at the age of 86, in Saline County Memorial Hospice Center after a long struggle with Alzheimer's Disease.
Larry was born in Kansas City, Missouri on September 23, 1924 to Violet and Lawrence Smith and was an only child. He spent most of his childhood in Dallas, Texas and Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, served in the Navy during WWII in Hawaii, and attended Oklahoma State University after the war. In 1948 he married Virginia F. Joyce from Mt. Carmel, Connecticut. He retired from the Maryland Casualty Company in Memphis, Tennessee as a claims supervisor in 1988, but also worked for many years for the Safeco Company as a property claims adjuster and manager. In Memphis, he was an active member of Bartlett United Methodist Church and a member of the Bartlett Avion Travelcade Club. After moving to Bryant, he was a member of Bryant United Methodist Church and most recently resided with his wife at Mount Carmel Community in Benton, Arkansas.
Many folks in Little Rock will remember him as a Boy Scout leader for Troop 188 that met in the Fire Station near Meadowcliff, on South University Ave., in Little Rock. He was passionate about his family and loved fishing and camping.
Larry is survived by his loving wife, Virginia Joyce Smith; sons, Robert (Brenda) of Cincinnati, Ohio; Douglas (Terri) of Mabelvale, Arkansas; Kenneth (Brenda) of Alexander, Arkansas; seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to UAMS, Donald W. Reynolds Institute on Aging or the Alzheimer's Association (www.alz.org).
Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m., Monday, September 26, 2011 at Bryant First United Methodist Church with Reverend Hammett Evans officiating. Interment to follow at Pinecrest Memorial Park.
Family will receive friends 5:00-7:00 p.m., Sunday at Roller-Drummond Funeral Home

Carmel, Connecticut, September 9, 1922 to Marion and Clarence Joyce. Virginia is survived by her loving sons, Robert (Brenda) of Cincinnati, Ohio; Douglas (Terri) of Mabelvale, Arkansas; Kenneth (Brenda) of Alexander, Arkansas; 7 grandchildren, Bryan (Gwendolyn) Smith of Cincinnati, Ohio; Lacey (Alan) Esposito of Levittown, Pennsylvania; Amy (Daniel) Taylor of Sheridan, Arkansas; Daniel (Heather) Smith of Bryant, Arkansas; Christina Delk Pipkin of Mabelvale, Arkansas; Ronald Delk of Little Rock, Arkansas; Brandon Smith of Conway, Arkansas
