Elsie Barker Terry, of Hot Springs, was called home by her Lord and Savior in the early hours of June 26, 2020. She was born Sept 24, 1944 to James and Jewel Barker in Inglewood CA. She is preceded in death by her parents, her brother James Barker Jr. and sister Mary Barker Johnson, her daughter-in-law Connie Hoggard Terry, and her brother-and-sister-in-law Buddy and Lilly Stevens. She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Donald W. Terry, Sr., her sons and their wives: Mark & Tommie Terry of Mocksville, NC; David & Gina Terry of Statesville, NC; and Donald & Sheila Terry Jr. of Hot Springs, AR, a brother-in-law Walt Johnson of San Diego CA, and a brother-and-sister-in-law Paul and Brenis Jones of Anderson, SC, eleven grandchildren plus spouses, and dozens of nieces, nephews, cousins and others she loved and claimed. A librarian, teacher, office manager and records-specialist by trade, her occupation was serving her Lord and supporting her local church throughout her days. Through the years, as she and Don moved their home from California to Central Arkansas, they were members of Grand Ave Baptist in Glendora, CA, Memorial Baptist Church in Lake Hamilton, AR, Life Line Baptist in Little Rock, AR, Indian Hills Baptist in North Little Rock, AR, Trinity Church in Hot Springs, AR, Village Bible Church in Hot Springs Village, AR and 1st Nazarene in Hot Springs, AR. Her home and her kitchen were constantly opened to family & friends, their friends, Sunday School class gatherings, college students, and visiting missionaries. She always found a house with a large living room and a spare bedroom. When she wasn’t caring for her family, teaching high school, college and single adult Sunday School classes, volunteering in the various church programs, or participating and serving in Ladies Bible Study Fellowship and Lay-Renewal Ministry weekends, she worked as a librarian for the Los Angeles Co Library, teaching reading at Little Rock Christian School, and serving as office and records manager for several businesses in central Arkansas. In her spare time she was an avid reader. A memorial service will be held 10am Monday July 6th at Caruth-Hale in Hot Springs, with a visitation July 5th from 5-7pm.
