Dorothy Imogene Ousley Vanderburg, 83, of Maumelle, went to be with her lord on October 28, 2020. Free from pain and suffering, she is reunited with her husband of 50 years, Donald Eugene Vanderburg and her son, Darrell Kent Vanderburg, July 10, 2020.

Imogene was born in Hunter, Arkansas on August 30, 1937, the daughter of the late Leroy Eugene and Dorothy Mildred Hunt Ousley. Imogene married Donald Eugene Vanderburg on June 20, 1955. They loved laughed and cried together for 50 years until Donald’s going home on April 2006. To this union were born two children. Not just any children but special children. God had blessed her with children with disabilities. The lord knew that she was strong willed and up for the task. In her eyes both were perfect and possessed more abilities than disabilities.

Imogene was a selfless person and dedicated her life to her family. When faced with raising a deaf daughter, she never wavered. She set out to teach Devonna to talk so she could fit into the hearing world. She was not ashamed of her daughter’s deafness but knew there would be many obstacles to overcome in a hearing world. When she learned that her son was diagnosed with muscular dystrophy, she never missed a beat. She took care of Darrell until her body and mind could do no more. That is the definition of a mother. She never let her children feel sorry for themselves. She would not tolerate self-pity.

She loved to cook and bake, many times something that Donald had killed or caught. She was a self-taught seamstress. In her spare time, which was little, she enjoyed quilting, sewing and all types of needlework. Her true love may have been genealogy. In so much that she published a book on the Hunts of Hunter, Arkansas. She traveled many miles through many states to research her other relatives and their origins. She and Darrell spent countless hours researching both sides of the family. One thing that she always had time for was reading her bible. Her greatest joy was seeing her children accept Jesus as their Lord and Savior.

Imogene was a member of First Baptist Little Rock when she was able to attend. Imogene is survived by her daughter Devonna Faye Vanderburg and Husband James G. “Cully” Culpepper III of Maumelle.

The family would like to thank the staff of Good Shepherd Rehab and Baptist Hospice for the excellent care they provided her. Visitation will be at 10:00a.m. on Monday November 2 with services following at 11:00a.m. at First Baptist Little Rock. Burial will be at Riverwood Memorial Gardens at Maumelle. Arrangements by Bob Neal & Sons Funeral Home – Brinkley

In Lieu of Flowers, Memorials can be made to First Baptist Little Rock, 62 Pleasant Valley Drive, Little Rock, AR 72212 or a charity of your choice.
