L. W. Dean, 79 years old, route 3, Fort Smith, was dead on arrival at a local hospital Tuesday, April 30. Born Aug. 1, 1888 at Wills Point, Texas to C. P. and Cynthia Carden Dean, he was a former resident of Crawford county and had lived at Pocola, Okla. since 1949. A member of Pocola First Baptist church he was a retired farmer.
Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Lillie Dean; two sons, S. D. Dean and J. R. Dean, both of Fort Smith; three daughters, Mrs. Thelma Jones, Mrs. Edith Climer and Mrs. Lucille Dean, all of Alma; two brothers, Cloe Dean of Dove Creek, Colo. and Estes Dean of Phoenix, Ariz.; a sister, Mrs. Carrie Edwards of Stak, Fla.; 15 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.

The funeral service was held in Pocola First Baptist church Thursday, May 2 at 2 p.m. with Don Wheat and Frank Carroll, the officiating ministers. Burial, directed by Ocker Funeral Home, was in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens.
Grandsons serving as casket bearers were Guy Dean Jr., Eddie Dean, Mike Dean, C. L. Dean, Delbert Dean, Don Climer and Dewey Sneed.
Honorary pallbearers were J. V. Farmer, Billie Pipkins, Tom Aishman, Orvil Hall, Farmer Wann, Ted Coleman and Junior Pipkins.
