Ambers Hartsfield JR., age 84 of Huttig, AR, formerly of Shreveport, LA passed away on Friday, September 22, 2017 at the John R. Williamson Hospice House in El Dorado. Ambers was born on February 25, 1933 in Huttig, AR to the late Mary Kathryn Jamison Hartsfield and Ambers Hartsfield SR.
He served in the US Army from 1953 to 1954 and was stationed in Wackunkine, Germany. His ranks were PVT in May of 1953, PFC in November of 1953 and CPL in December of 1954. He later worked for the City of Shreveport, LA (Streets Dept.) and retired as a supervisor, having dedicated many years of service before his retirement.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 62 years, Mildred Stinson Hartsfield; one sister, Eleanor Dollar; three brothers, Albert Hartsfield, James Hartsfield and Fred Hartsfield also his special K9 Companion Queenie.
Those left to cherish his memory include; four special nieces, Darlene Osgood, Geraldene Dollar, Beverly Toms and Sharon Dollar; sisters in law, Peggy Shewmake and husband Herbie, Virgie Sandifer and husband Johnny, Ada Stinson and Hallie Hartsfield; brother in law, William Stinson and wife Patricia along with numerous other nieces, nephews, cousins and his special K9 Companion, Jack.
Visitation will be from 5-7 pm on Sunday, September 24, 2017 at Bailey Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 am on Monday, September 25, 2017 at Harper Springs Missionary Baptist Church with Fulton Lum JR. and Kevin Osgood officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Harper Springs Cemetery under the direction of Bailey Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Gerald "Bubba" Dollar, Curtis Dollar, Johnny Dollar, William Stinson, Dalton Toms, Carl Shewmake, Jeff Shewmake, Gene May and Kendal Dollar. Honorary pallbearers will be, Jody Carmichael and Herbie Shewmake.
The family would like to say a special thank you to Kevin Osgood and Fulton Lum JR. for all the love and care that Ambers received from you both and to everyone at Life Touch Hospice for the wonderful love and care during his final days.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Life Touch Hospice of El Dorado or to Harper Springs Cemetery Fund C/O Marion State Bank, Marion, LA. (SHreveport Times - May 6, 2013)
