Annie L "Big Mama" HICKEY

Crystal Hill Cemetery
Pulaski County,
Arkansas

Jan 24, 1913 - Jan 28, 2010

Annie L. Hild ''Big Mama'' Hickey of Little Rock was reunited with ''Papaw'' when she went to heaven on Thursday, January 28, 2010. She was 97 years old.

Annie was born on January 24, 1913 to parents, John A. and Emma Hild. She grew up during the Great Depression and once told her grandchildren, ''we knew times were getting better, when a rabbit would jump across the yard and nobody chased it.''

Annie married Gene Hickey in 1931. She assisted Gene on various business ventures from the dairy farm to the dairy bar. She spent many years rocking babies for the St. Vincent Infirmary-Intensive Care Unit. Even into her 80's, she was still helping care for the ''old people'' of her church and community. She spent her life taking care of others, especially her family.

Annie is preceded in death by her beloved Gene ''Papaw'' Hickey, her eldest son, Charles ''Bubba'' Hickey, sisters, Mattie and Chris, brothers, Adolph and Walter, and granddaughter, Wendy Bryant.

She is survived by children, Marie Bryant (Ted) of Little Rock, Dewey Hickey (Harriett) of Greenwood, Joe Hickey (Dee) of Mabelvale, and daughter, Charlotte Hickey of Van Buren. She leaves to cherish her memory eleven grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; four great, great-grandchildren, and many special friends from Crystal Hill Baptist Church where she was a faithful member for 74 years. She held the titles of oldest member and oldest mother for many years.

Although some circles are broken here on earth, Annie is now in a perfect circle with her family, friends, and personal savior in heaven. We love you, Big Mama.

A celebration of Annie's life at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, February 4, 2010 at Crystal Hill Baptist Church on Lawson Road. Annie's son, Pastor Dewey Hickey and Pastor Larry Ballard will officiate. Interment will be at Crystal Hill Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m., Wednesday at Roller-Chenal Funeral Home (501)224-8300 and at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, prior to the service at the church.
