ANDREWS, Hiram - Hiram Andrews was born September 27th, 1831 at Bucyrus, Crawford county, Ohio and died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Eva Pugh, Windsor, Missouri, June 23d, 1906. He was therefore 74 years, 8 months and 26 days old. In 1853 Mr. Andrews went to Iowa to live and there in 1858 he married Miss Lucina Standfield. Of this union were born three children. Two of these are living, Mr. Frank Andrews, once a resident of Bentonville but now of Knoxville, Iowa and Mrs. Eva Pugh of Windsor, Mo. Deceased had gone to spend the summer with his daughter at Windsor, expecting to return to his home here in the fall. It was somewhat of a shock to this community when his remains were brought here Tuesday morning, the 26th inst. for interment. None had heard of his serious illness or death. The body was taken from the morning train to the Christian church, which he loved and served faithfully when living. He had been a member of the church about thirty years. In Iowa he was a deacon and later an elder in his congregation. In the Bentonville church he served as elder about ten years and held this office when he left for his daughter's home. A resident of Bentonville, to which he came in 1885, he was well known to our people and highly esteemed by all. A modest citizen, he was a useful one; impatient of deception, he was thoroughly honest; mindful of his own affairs, he was an accommodating neighbor; retiring in his manner of life, he sacrificed for others; not claiming perfection, he was a devoted Christian. He lived a good, useful life and died buoyed up by the glorious hope of a blessed immortality, through Jesus Christ, his Savior. The funeral services were conducted by Dr. J.W. Ellis, pastor of the Christian church, after which the body was laid to rest in our cemetery.
