Rapheal Venice Muzny, 89
Born August 22, 1932 in Lincoln, Nebraska, Ralph was the eldest son of 7 to the late Venice Muzny and Marie Thanel.
You can’t talk about the life of Ralph Muzny without mentioning his wife, Shirley. She was the love of his life. They rarely spent a day apart from one another and the care and genuine love they had for one another was an example to all around them. The two met at Springlake Amusement Park in Oklahoma City at the ages of 16 and 19, were married and began their life together. Anyone who knows them would tell you that they built a legacy of love that is unlike any other. Together, they raised their beautiful family, 5 children that went on to have 11 grandchildren and 30 great grandchildren.
Ralph’s 70-year career in home furnishings began at the age of 19 with Evans Big Red Furniture Warehouse in Oklahoma City. He relocated to Tulsa in 1967 joining Horn Brothers Furniture in sales and management. He left retail home furnishings in 1973 to become a manufacturer’s representative for Spring Air Mattress in Little Rock, AR. In 1975 he became a partner in McCabe Furniture in Little Rock, AR. Considering retirement and loving the area, Ralph and Shirley moved to Hot Springs in 1986. Finding he wasn’t suited for retirement, together Ralph and Shirley opened Arkansas Furniture. Ralph continued as president and owner/operator until his passing. Hard work, determination, and a drive to succeed marked Ralph’s career. He always said if you enjoy what you do for a living, you’ll never work a day in your life. There was nothing he liked better than the thrill of a sale!
Ralph never met a stranger; his smile and love of life were contagious to everyone around him. He most enjoyed cooking over a campfire, going out on his boat or traveling in his RV, and visiting state parks and casinos. He’d never fail to tell you how much he’d won on the slots, but always left out how much he’d spent in the process. He loved people and always looked forward to coffee with the boys on Thursday mornings. Ralph could often be found chewing on a cigar and drinking an O’Douls while wearing his Razorback hat and petting one of his beloved cats. Although his success in the furniture industry was clear, if you asked him, nothing made him prouder than his family.
Ralph was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Muzny of Hot Springs and his eldest son, Ralph Muzny Jr. of Williamsville, MO.
He is survived by a son, Mike Muzny of Hot Springs, AR, daughters, Teresa Zeigler of Broken Arrow, OK., Janie Bozeman of Goleta, CA., Cathy Buckmaster of Cabot, AR., and brothers Sam Muzny and David Muzny of Oklahoma City
