Melvin Mower Kennedy, age 89, of Murfreesboro, Arkansas went to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, January 24, 2024 in Nashville, Arkansas. She was born March 12, 1934 in Murfreesboro, Arkansas the daughter of the late Edwin Parley Mower, Mary Cranford, and Walter Meckel.

Mrs. Kennedy was a member of Maple Springs Baptist Church and served as a song leader for many years. She enjoyed fishing, cooking, quilting, crocheting, and embroidery. Melvin loved planting in her flower beds, shopping with the girls, vacations, and traveling with her family. But more importantly she was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She had a great gift of making every child and grandchild of hers feel like they were the favorite and most special.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her loving husband of 67 years Donald Kennedy; brothers Ansel Mabery, William Johnson, Roy Johnson, and Donald Meckel; sisters Laura Johnson Bailey Widener, and Dorothy Schmidt.

Survivors include one son Ronald Kennedy (Sharon); two daughters Lisa Kennedy and Julie Cherry (Jimmy Don); seven grandchildren Cody Kennedy, Kyle Kennedy, Dylan Kennedy, Hanah Kennedy (Nick Smith), Haley Kennedy, Dalton Cherry, and Levi Cherry; two great-grandchildren Wyatt Smith and Vera Smith; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, other family and friends.

Visitation will be 9:00 a.m., until service time Saturday, January 27, at Latimer Funeral Home in Murfreesboro.

Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday, January 27, at Latimer Funeral Home in Murfreesboro, with burial to follow in Murfreesboro Cemetery, under the direction of Latimer Funeral Home in Murfreesboro.

Our family would like to express a special thank you to John Howell for being more than a doctor, but a friend, Nashville Nursing and Rehab Staff, Dierksen Hospice, hospice caregivers Betsy, Rufus, and Emily, as well as special caregiver Sandra Fugitt Guerra for their loving care for our mother.
