Wayne Wilks, 79, of Fayetteville died Friday at Fayetteville Health and Rehabilitation Center. He was born May 3,1923, at Harris Switch to Harvey and Addie Tucker Wilks.

He worked for Gene Goff and his son, Dash Goff, of Verna Lea Farms. He also was retired from IGA Grocery. He was a member of Masonic Lodge No.347 and was past patron of Eastern Star, Ozark Chapter No.295. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a member at St. James United Methodist Church.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Frankie Lackey Wilks; and one son, Donnie Gene Wilks.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Wilks of Fayetteville; one son, Robert Wayne Wilks of Dallas; one daughter, Regina Ann French of Fayetteville; four stepsons, Lathanie Barker of Rialto, Calif., Floyd Barker of Van Buren, and Bobby Barker and Lafayette Barker, both of Fayetteville; two step-daughters, Patricia Pendegrass of Rialto, Calif., and Teresa Gray of Russellville; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and many stepgrandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.

Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Friday at St. James United Methodist Church with the Rev. Gary Lunsford and the Rev. Sara Bainbridge officiating. Burial will be at Fayetteville National Cemetery.

Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. at Beard's Funeral Chapel.
