Doris Marie (Dottie) Steward was born on February 25, 1939 to George T. and Willie Mae Ferguson in Fort Smith, Arkansas (both of who have preceded her in death).
Doris was blessed to have many siblings, ten which have preceded her in death; John Ferguson, George Ferguson, Marshall Ferguson, Betty Joe Moncrease, Agratha Perry, Robbie Yarbrough, Ronald Marshall, Dorothy Cooper, Clarence Holloway, Willie Marshall. She is also preceded in death by her two sons Terry E.and Paul W. Steward.

Doris was educated in Fort Smith School System and graduated from Lincoln High School class of 1957. Doris was baptized at an early age by J.L. Council at Mission Point Missionary Baptist Church where she served as VBS teacher, Coordinator over the M.L.K. Parade representing her church, assisted with the MPMBC Cooperative Tea. But he greatest honor was to be a member of the MPMBC Usher Board, where she served as President for many years and was a member for over 60 years. She was also a member of the Antioch Ushers, Nurses, and Greeters Association. She worked in this capacity until her health began to fail.

Doris worked at Whirlpool Corporation Fort Smith Division for 31 years, she retired in March of 2002. But her work and dedication did not stop there. She continued to take care of and help family and friends. She loved her Midland Heights Family.

Doris married Willie E. Steward (precedes her in death) in 1958 and to this union 4 children were born. She leaves to cherish her loving memory One son John Newman(Darlene) of Camden AR. Daughters Donna Lester and Angelia Jacob(Vincent) of Fort Smith AR., and Mary Breedlove of Jefferson City Tenn. Sisters Octavia Nichols and Geraldine Fletcher or Kansas City, MO, Vertus Bellis(Steve) of Webb City MO. One brother George T. Ferguson(Fatima)of Kansas City, MO. 17 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandson. One God Daughter Nicole(Coco) Boykin of Little Rock AR. Two Sons of Love, Chuck Carter of Fort Smith AR, and Reggie Martin of Lonoke AR. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Funeral service will be 10:00 AM Friday November 6, 2020 at Lewis Funeral Chapel located at 4817 Kelley Hwy in Fort Smith, AR with interment to follow at Roselawn Cemetery in Fort Smith. Viewing will be 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM Thursday November 5, 2020 at the funeral home.
