Patrece L. Sherman, 84, of Fort Smith, died Thursday, Jan. 15, 2009, in Fort Smith. She was born in Bonners Ferry, Idaho, on August 1, 1924, the daughter of the late Howard and Matilda Snyder. Pat spent most of her early years in Spokane, Wash. After attending Whitman College, she moved to New York City where she began an exciting career as a journalist/publicist with 20th Century Fox studios. She later met and married the late Dr. Robert L. Sherman. In 1954, they were relocated to Fort Chaffee following the Korean Conflict. After meeting the warm and gracious people of Fort Smith, they decided to stay and raise their family. Pat was a member of First Presbyterian Church. She was involved in the Presbyterian Women's Circle, the Fort Smith Junior League, Little Theater and the Sparks Women's Guild. Pat was a long-time supporter of the University of Arkansas at Fort Smith, the Fort Smith Art Center, Yale University, United Way, Salvation Army and many other charitable organizations. She will be remembered for her tremendous sense of humor and her story telling. She is survived by her children Scott and wife Marnie Sherman of Corpus Christi, Texas, Tom and Janet Sherman Fitzsimmons of Kansas City, Kan., Tony and wife Mary Beth Sherman of Fayetteville, Ark., and Nancy Sherman of Little Rock, Ark. Grandchildren include Meredith Looney, Sam, Katherine, Natalie, and Robert Sherman. She was preceded in death by her husband Dr. Robert L. Sherman. Memorial service will be Monday, January 19, 2009, at 2 p.m. in the First Presbyterian Church of Fort Smith. Cremation and burial will be under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home.
