Mary Ann Wiley was born in McLean County, Illinois, February 15, 1845, passed away April 18, 1930 at the home near Gravette. She was united in marriage to William Smith, October 24, 1866 at Sullivan, Illinois. To this union five children were born: Laura, who died in infancy, Sadie Johnson, Ruthie O. Lee, Lewis Smith and Gracie Gilmore. All were at her bedside, but Ruthie of Arizona. She was a friend to everyone that knew her. Always a devoted mother. Before she died, she called her children to her bedside and said, "God bless you my dear children, I am going home to Heaven."
One less at home, the charmed circle broken,
A dear face missed day by day from its accustomed place.
One more in Heaven,
One less on earth, its pain, its sorrow, and its toil to share,
One less the pilgrims daily cross to bear,
One more the crown of ransomed souls to wear.
At home in Heaven.
Funeral services were held at the Presbyterian church, April 2Oth at Gravette, the Rev. Saunders conducting the services. Interment was made in the Odd Fellows Cemetery.
