Mary Amretta Beard, daughter of J. C. and Sarah Beard, was born at Brighton, Iowa, December 19, 1856.

She professed faith in Christ, uniting with the Presbyterian church, at thirteen years of age, and remained a member of that church until her coming to Gentry, when she became a member of the Congregational church there.

She was united in marriage to Dr. W. H.Dice, at Avalon, Mo., September 21, 1876. To this union, which was unbroken until his death two years ago; were born five children: Mrs. Arthur Smith, Springtown, Ark.; Mrs. W. I. Mead, Lynwood, Calif.; Estelle, Springtown; Mabel, who 'passed away at Lowry City, Mo., in 1917, and Harold A. of Kansas City, Mo.

Mother Dice departed this life March 23, 1936; at the age of 79 years, 3 months, 4 days, leaving behind four children, seven grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and other loved ones and friends beyond number.

For twelve years the writer of these lines has had the privilege of her presence in his home, and he bears this testimony, as do all who knew her, that she walked with God. How many lives she has inspired and blessed eternity alone will reveal. A constant sufferer for years, but oh, how patient and cheerful. Truly her sufferings here have wrought for her a "far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory."
