January 2, 1925 - July 9, 2012
Viola Mae Gulley Ross answered the voice of God on Monday, July 9, 2012 at Mercy Hospital in Hot Springs, Arkansas. Her legacy began on January 2, 1925 in Rosston, AR when she was born, the daughter of Willie and Mae Lillie Bell Gulley. They preceded her in death as did her husband, Louis Ross, twin children, Willie C and Jackie Sue Williams and seven siblings.
She received her formal education at Oak Grove School System. She later moved to Hot Springs and was employed at Desoto Hotel. At the age of 20 she became a member of Bethlehem Temple Apostolic Church where she served as a Church Mother. She remained a loyal and faithful member until she was called home.
Known as Madea, she was the Matriarch of her family, where she was an inspiration to everyone in her own special way. She will be sorely missed.
Memories of Madea will forever be etched in the heart of her daughters, Clara Phillips Tidwell of Jacksonville, NC, Betty Burnell and Corma (Gerald) Bryant all of Hot Springs; her sons, Eddie Ross and Robert (Charlotte) Ross all of Dallas, TX; two sisters, Feola Gulley and Stella (Johnnie) Williams all of Rockford, IL; special friend, David Henderson; eight grandchildren, several great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and a host of extended family.
Funeral services will be 10:00 A,M. Saturday at Bethlehem Temple Apostolic Church 511 Wade Street with Bishop Elise Williams officiating. Burial will follow in Crestview Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 5:00 – 7:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
