As a member of the Greatest Generation, Fran Langston completed her long service as a loving and dedicated Christian, patriot, wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, great grandmother, friend and public servant.
LaFran (Fran) Langston, 94 of Fort Smith, Arkansas passed away on February 5, 2015 in the presence of her family in a local nursing home.
A World War II veteran, Fran was born in Hamburg, Arkansas on May 27, 1920 to Allen and Georgia (Greeson) Chapman.
While in the Women’s Army Corps, Fran met and married a young Army captain, Jim Langston. After serving a two-year tour together in Sednai, Japan, the Langston’s were transferred to Camp Chaffee and settled in Fort Smith with their two daughters, Susan and Rebecca. Fran worked for Sebastian County in several departments and retired as Chief Juvenile Probate Officer, a position she used to advocate for children; she was instrumental in establishing the Boy’s Shelter in Fort Smith and served on the board for many years. She was a volunteer at St. Edward Mercy Medical Center and was a 40 year member of East Side Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband Jim Langston and her daughter Susan Langston.
Graveside services will be 2:00PM, Tuesday, February 10, 2015 at Roselawn Cemetery under the direction of Ocker-Putman Funeral Home of Fort Smith, Arkansas.
Pallbearers are Ron and Brandon Harrison, Kirby and Harry Riffel and Charlie and Tyler Mann.
She is survived by her daughter, Rebecca Harrison and her husband Ron of Fort Smith, AR; two grandchildren, Susan Riffel of Farmington, AR and Brandon Harrison and his wife Kelly of Fort Smith, AR and four great grandchildren, Kirby and Harry Riffel of Farmington, AR and Kinsley and Summer Harrison of Fort Smith, AR.
