Glenda Gene (Gunnels) Hutcheson, 86, of Magnolia, Arkansas departed to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, April 24, 2011 at the Magnolia Regional Medical Center in Magnolia.
She was born November 21, 1924 in Minden, Louisiana to the late Walter Raiford and Rena (Terrell) Gunnels. She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Bennie Dickson Hutcheson with whom she raised six children, a brother Bobby Gunnels, and sisters Frances Cotton and Billie R. Mooney.
She is survived by her children Melba Woodard and husband Ron of Springhill, Louisiana, Jane Hutcheson of Magnolia, Bennie Hutcheson and wife Ann of North Little Rock, Fred Hutcheson and wife Teresa of Emerson, Jimmy Hutcheson and wife Sherri of Magnolia, Rick Hutcheson and wife Jan of Magnolia; grandchildren Kim Hearron and husband Ray of Doyline, Louisiana, Kristy Morrison and husband Brandon of Sheridan, Kelly Baker and husband Scooter of Shongaloo, Louisiana, Kevin Hutcheson and wife Jennifer of Camden, Amy Vent and husband Kevin of North Little Rock, Holly Johnson and husband Brian of Greenbrier, Melissa Staggs and husband Mark of Emerson, Jason Hutcheson and wife Amanda of Magnolia, Caleb Hutcheson of Magnolia and Joel Hutcheson of Magnolia; great grandchildren Skylar and Noah Hearron of Doyline, Louisiana, Matthew and Carley Morrison of Sheridan, Hunter Baker of Shongaloo, Louisiana, Maddox and Maitlen Hutcheson of Camden, Vaden Vent of North Little Rock, Cade Johnson of Greenbrier, Kendall Staggs of Emerson, Ayden and Maeli Hutcheson of Magnolia; brother Sam Gunnels of Prescott Valley, Arizona; sisters Delores Cheatham of Hemphill, Texas, Marilyn Dixon and Barbara Knight of Magnolia.
Glenda married at an early age and started her family. Life was not always easy, but never did you hear her complain. She raised her kids in a modest two bedroom home that was always spotless. In the early years, even though she was busy with her kids, she gave perms and cut hair for a lot of women in the neighborhood. If you were a niece you always went to aunt Glenda to get your bangs trimmed on Saturday, so you would look good on Sunday. On top of all that, she did the sewing and alterations for anyone in need.
All the kids in the neighborhood went to her house to play in the back yard. At lunch time, everyone was invited to stay and eat. A few more mouths to feed didn't bother her.
Glenda never learned to drive until the death of her husband. In her middle 60's she taught herself to drive and passed the driving test. She would boast how she could drive herself into town and back without making a left hand turn. She was a proud woman and didn't want anyone driving her around.
Always prim and proper, you never saw her otherwise. Be sure, you would be scolded if she thought you said something improper in "mixed company" as she put it. She loved working in her flower beds and taking care of her yard, until her health failed her.
She was an active member of the Antioch East Baptist Church, the WMA, and also was a Pink Lady Volunteer at the Magnolia Hospital.
Her family would like to thank Dr. Ked Davis and the Staff at Magnolia Hospital. A special thanks goes to her care givers, Shirley Watson and Gloria Biddle.
She was a dedicated Christian and a wonderful example of a mother and grandmother. She will surely be missed by her family and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 27, 2011 at the Antioch East Baptist Church with Bro. Ray Hearron and Bro. Ron Owen officiating. Burial will follow at the Antioch East Cemetery under the direction of Lewis Funeral Home, Inc. of Magnolia. Visitation will be Tuesday evening from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorial donations may be made to the Antioch East Baptist Church or to Antioch East Cemetery Association.
