Mrs. J.M. Vandover died at her home on North Second street Saturday night without recovering consciousness from a stroke of paralysis with which she was attacked the previous day. Funeral services were held at the Central Methodist church Monday afternoon at 2:30 and in the absence of the pastor the services were conducted by Rev. Fred A. Lark of Newport, Ark., a former pastor of the church who is visiting here. Interment was in the Rogers cemetery. Mrs. Vandover, who was 82 years old, was a native of Missouri, being born at Ripley, that State. Her maiden name was Lizzie Dudley. She was married to J.M. Vandover September 17, 1886 at Sherman, Texas. They lived in Hempstead County, Arkansas for several years, coming to Benton County in 1870(?) and locating on a farm near Centerton. They came to Rogers in 1883, two years after the organization of the town and had made their home here ever since. Mr. Vandover died here November 21, 1916. To them were born four children. The oldest daughter, Mrs. Belle Rogers, wife of C.A. Rogers, died here some fifteen or sixteen years ago. The other three - Will Vandover, Mrs. A.L. Cadman and Riley Vandover, are residents of Rogers. Mr. Vandover was engaged in the livery and stock business here and was a heavy property owner. His widow owned the two-story brick block known as the Elk corner; also the Acorn store building and the adjoining lot on which the new addition is being erected; as well as other properties in various parts of town. She took much interest in business matters and always gave them her personal attention. Mrs. Vandover was one of the pioneer settlers of Rogers and Benton County and by her death the community loses a good citizen and an interesting personality.
