Joe Gene Hassler, 80 of Fort Smith passed away Thursday, July 20, 2010.
He was an Army Veteran, a member of Christ the King Catholic Church, the American Legion, VFW, the Knights of Columbus, Holy Name Society, NRA, Old Fort Gun Club and Quail Unlimited. He was a Retired Pressman for the Indianapolis Star Newspaper.
He was preceded in death by his wife Maturiah J. "Bonnie" Hassler.
Rosary was said at 6pm, Sunday, July 25, 2010. Mass was 10am Tuesday at Christ the King Catholic Church. Burial was at Roselawn Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Fentress Mortuary of Fort Smith.
He is survived by his son Steven Hassler of Indianapolis, brother Jerry Hassler and wife Jude of Ft. Smith, nieces; Cindy Larkin and husband Keith, of Fort Smith, Ginger Edgmon and husband Mark, of Van Buren, and Becky Hassler, of St, Louis, and a nephew, Mike Hassler and wife Meghan, of Fort Smith, and many cousins.
Pallbearers were Mike Hassler, Joshua, Jacob, and B.J. Huffstatler, George Sloan, and James Rogers. Honorary Pallbearer Blake Larkin

June 9, 1930 - December 30, 2004
Maturah J. Bonnie Hassler age 74 of Fort Smith passed away Thursday December 30, 2004 in Fort Smith.
She was a member of Christ The King Catholic Church in Fort Smith and was a member of the Presentation Circle at Christ The King.
She was preceded in death by her parents Frank and Virginia Weindel and an infant brother Weiss Weindel. She married her husband Joe Gene Hassler May 21, 1956.
She was a telephone operator at Southwestern Bell in Fort Smith and moved to Indianapolis, Indiana in 1957 where the family lived for fourty four years and returned to Fort Smith in 2001. Her husband was a stereotyper-pressman for the Indianapolis newspaper for 37 years.
Rosary service was January 3, 2005 at Fentress Mortuary Chapel. Funeral Mass was Tuesday January 4, 2005 at Christ The King Catholic Church in Fort Smith with burial at Roselawn Cemetery under the direction of Fentress Mortuary.
She was survived by her husband Joe Gene Hassler, one son Steven Hassler of Indianapolis, Indiana; brother in law and sister in law Jerry and Jude Hassler of Fort Smith. Nieces Cindy and her husband Keith Larkin, Virginia Huffstetler, Rebekah Hassler. Nephew Michael and wife Meghan Hassler and one cousin Wanda Huffstutter. Great nephews Joshua Huffstetler serving in Iraq, Jacob and B.J. Huffstetler and Blake Larkin.
