Tressie
Nov 21, 1931 Apr 18, 2020
Tressie Mae Mitchell Shirley stepped into eternity April 18, 2020. She was so ready. She was born at Olmstead, Arkansas on November 21, 1931 to Hubert and Nora Mitchell. They precede her in life as did Vaughn Shirley, her beloved husband of 63 years. She was also preceded by son Samuel Shirley, great-grandson Adrian King, and two brothers.
Ms Shirley retired from PCSSD after 21 years as a school bus driver. She was a friend to all the students, and much more to many. She continued to be employed as a courier for many years. Her musical career started early when she would play guitar and sing for family and friends songs from the Grand ole opry. At age 15 she met Jesus. From then on, her music was for Him. She was a Prayer Warrior who spent many hours each day praying. Those prayers will be missed.
She leaves to rejoice in her memory, Sons Tom Shirley (Beverly), Joseph Shirley of Jacksonville, and John Shirley (Deborrah) of Amherst, Ohio. Daughters LaVonne Polk and Janice Fortson (Leon) of Jacksonville. Two brothers, three sisters, twenty-one grandchildren, forty-five great grandchildren and 9 great-great-grand children.
Fond memories are had from the songs she sang, the church family she loved, by the children she bussed, and the many people she fed tacos.
Due to present day situations, a viewing will be Wednesday, April 22 from 8 am until 5 pm. at Griffin Leggett Rest Hills.
