Leroy Banks was born on February 2, 1922 in Little Rock, Arkansas to Homer and Eva Banks. His schooling was accomplished at Little Rock, and at an early age he united with the C.M.E. Church. Later in life, Mr. Banks went to Hot Springs, and while there was contacted by Alphonso Trent who urged him to come to Fort Smith. Leroy came to Fort Smith and joined with Alphonso Trent's Band. After Mr. Trent's death, Leroy took over the leadership of the Trent Band, and continued to enjoy his favorite role in life, that of utilizing his abilities and skills with the trumpet and trombone. After his move to Fort Smith Leroy met Freddye Parker, and on October 8, 1950 they were united in Holy matrimony. For the past thirty-five years he ws employed at the Hardscrabble Country Club, he was also a member of the Progrerssive Men's Club, a member of the NAACP, and was the organizer and Bandleader of the Rockets of Rhythm Band. He was stricken with sudden illness and died on April 13, 1982 and leaves his wife, three daughters, a son, his father, seven grandchildren and other relatives.
