LAVACA — Alvin J. Sutherland, 86, of Lavaca died Tuesday, Dec. 19, 2000, in his home. He was a farmer. Funeral will be 10 a.m. Friday in Smith Mortuary Chapel in Charleston with burial at Hickory Ridge Cemetery, southeast of Lavaca. He is survived by his wife, Marea; two daughters, Sedalia Douglas of Lavaca and Josephine Krallman of Benton; one son, James Sutherland of Lone Wolf, Okla.; four sisters, Geneva Jackson and Floy Wilson, both of Porterville, Calif., Dortha Steele of Las Vegas and Dimple Stockton of Lavaca; one brother, Harold J. Sutherland of Porterville, Calif.; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Thomas and Brent Douglas, Bill, Wayne and Clint Krallman, Greg Wewers and Daniel Fantinel. Marea Sutherland, who resided near Lavaca, Arkansas, passed away, Monday, February 27, 2017 in Charleston, Arkansas. She was born September 3, 1917, near the Union Community, north of Lavaca, to the late J. G. "Pomp" and Sally (Floyd) Williams. She was 99 years old. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Alvin Sutherland; four half-brothers; four brothers and three sisters.
Marea was a homemaker and member of West-Ark Church of Christ in Fort Smith, Arkansas.
Funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 1st at Brotherton Funeral Home Chapel in Charleston. Burial will be at Hickory Ridge Cemetery, north of Lavaca, under the direction of Brotherton Brothers Funeral Home and Flower Shop in Charleston.
She is survived by two daughters, Sedalia Douglas of Lavaca, and Jo Krallman and husband Eddie of Benton, Arkansas; one son, James Sutherland and wife Ruby of Lone Wolf, Oklahoma; seven grandchildren, Thomas and Brent Douglas, Brenda (Greg) Wewers, Wayne and Bill Krallman, Mandy Smith, Brandy (Jared) Simmons and Daniel Fantinel; eight great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Thomas Douglas, Brent Douglas, Wayne Krallman, Bill Krallman, Daniel Fantinel, Greg Wewers and James Dunn.
Family will visit with friends from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday evening, February 28th at the funeral home in Charleston.
