William "Bill" Richards, 86, of Barling died Thursday, January 20, 2005, in Tulsa. He was a retired major in the Army and a veteran of World War II and the Korean War. He was retired as chapter manager of the Sebastian County Red Cross, a volunteer for St. Edwards Hospice, a former volunteer for SCAN and a water safety instructor for the Red Cross. He was a member of the Fort Smith Noon Lions Club, the American Legion, Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus and Little Rock Cursillo and served as a Eucharistic minister, commentator, lector and usher for Immaculate Conception Cahtolic Church.

He was preceded in death by his wife Louise and his daughter Teri Overbay.

Rosary was said at 6:30 p.m. at Putman Funeral Home Chapel in Fort Smith. Mass was held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Fort Smith with burial at Calvary Cemetery in Fort Smith.

He is survived by a daughter, a son, and former daughter-in-law, a brother, four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
