Barbara Jean (Hurst) Cox, 82 passed away on March 10, 2023.
Born on March 7, 1941, in Clover Bend, Arkansas to Floyd and Loma (Herriott) Hurst. She graduated from Clover Bend High School in 1959 and married Lilburn Lee Cox in Walnut Ridge on August 21, 1960. They first lived in Kennett, MO and then moved to Columbia, MO.
Barbara was a Christian and a patriot who believed in the concept of One Nation Under God. She was a sweet and loving person who often took care of other family members. She loved her family and church family at Fairview Road Church of Christ in Columbia, MO, where she was a member. She enjoyed bluegrass music, acapella hymns singing, gardening, writing poetry, scrapbooking, cooking, reading books from the church library, and birdwatching as well as videotaping the birds that came back to her feeder.
Barbara is survived by her son, Stacy Cox; two grandchildren Christy and Andrew Cox; one brother, Glenn Hurst; two sisters, Geraldine (Harold) Baker, and Janis Hurst; twenty-three nephews and nieces and their families; and a son in law, Zachary Riley; and many other relatives and friends.
Barbara is preceded in death by her parents, Floyd and Loma Hurst; her husband, Lilburn Cox; a daughter, Rhonda Autumn June Cox; three brothers, E.J., Lavon, and Carroll Gene Hurst; three sisters, Pauline Hurst, Waudine Flanigan and Maxine Short; two nephews, Gary Stroud and Donny Short; two nieces, Connie Garland and Brenda Mungle; eight uncles, Theodore, Frank, Lon, George, and Bill Harriott, Marvin, Curtis, and Ira Hurst; three aunts, Pearl Garrett, Ethol Wicker, and Mahuldah E. “Lizzie” Wicker Evans; and by her father’s mother-in-law, Ava (Dean) Cox and Fred Polston.
Graveside services were Friday, March 17, 2023 at 3P.M. in the Strangers Home Cemetery.
