Philip Edwin Case was born October 25, 1917 in Raymond, Minnesota and passed away on July 9, 2015 in Columbia, SC at the age of 97. His parents were Roy and Eula Freeman Case. Phil moved to Madison SD when he was 8 years old. He graduated from Madison High School in 1935.

He enrolled in South Dakota State College (now University) in Brookings, South Dakota in 1937. Phil enlisted in the US Navy in 1942 and served until the end of WWII. He served in the South Pacific and New Heberdies. After the war he returned to South Dakota State and graduated with a degree in Pharmacy in 1947.

Phil married Rachel Trygstad on December 23, 1942 at First Lutheran Church in Brookings, South Dakota. He worked as a pharmacist in South Dakota from 1947 until his retirement in 1981. He first worked as a pharmacist in Wessington Springs, SD. He moved to Parker, SD in 1949 to work at a drugstore which he purchased in 1952 and named Case Pharmacy. In 1965 he sold the Parker store and bought a drugstore in Beresford which he operated until he retired. Phil and Rachel moved to Bella Vista, Arkansas for for their retirement. He moved to Columbia, SC in 2004, a year after Rachel's death, to live with his daughter and son-in-law.

He served as the President of the South Dakota Pharmaceutical Association in 1961-1962. He was active in the Lutheran congregations where he lived. Phil enjoyed his hobby of model railroading from the 1950's until the end of his life.

Philip is preceded in death by his parents, brothers Eugene and Keith Case, son Jeffrey Case, wife Rachel, and great granddaughter Rachel Frey.

Grateful for having shared his life are his daughter Rebecca Lass and husband Tom of Columbia, granddaughters Karen McKeown and husband William of Woodbridge, VA and Janet Frey and husband Adam of Decatur, Ga and great granddaughters Elizabeth, Sarah, and Rebecca McKeown and Olivia Frey.
